Independence Day 2010

Yesterday we partook of the Westside Independence Day Parade.  Well, Ash, Chappy and I sat on the side and cheered and clapped.  John was standing guard as his duty as a Police Explorer demanded and Nickolas was pulled from our location into the parade with his Scout troop.  James was on his way home from a week long Scout camp (he had a fantastic time!!!).

The parade was fun-- we were thrilled at the patriotic difference in the republican and democratic party floats and supporters.  The republican crowd handed out the pocket sized constitutions and were dressed in red, white, and blue.  One could not miss their pride in The United States of America.  To contrast this, the democratic propagators wore orange shirts and merely waved, handing out personal cardboard fans that had the candidate's name, white relief against orange back ground.  For all we could have seen it was an organization not the representatives of a political party.

We saw a group that we might go see sometime: Six Guns and Shady Lady's.  It is a wild west show.  There are pictures, but I am awaiting Ashleigh to send them to me (my phone had died so she became my surrogate camera man).

Please remember that we are a nation set forth by God's own hand to be a beacon of freedom to the rest of the world.   As it was pointed out to me this week, Lady Liberty is not facing America with her torch held high, but is facing the darkness of a world where freedom doesn't reign-- showing the way for the US to share the blessings of freedom with other, oppressed nations.  And just as Chappy stated in his sermon today, the US and her allies didn't storm the beaches of Normandy for oil, wine, or French fries (I know, not French) but to bring liberty to a nation held hostage by an evil empire; just as the US and her allies liberated Kuwait not for oil ( as is often presented) but to protect the liberty and sovereignty of a nation under attack; just as the US and her allies freed the Iraqi people held under the brutal tyrannical thumb of a ruthless barbarous uncaring dictator, not to line the pockets of President Bush (as has been leveled) but to show a better way for all her people, to release them from bondage and fear.  But the US did this for knowledge that there is a better life for all if freedom from oppression is obtained.

Please, God,
bless the United States of America
